Nau mai, haere mai, ki te whānau o Healthy Families East Cape, George Kingi!

Ki te whai ao, ki te ao marama!

It has already been a couple of weeks, but July has seen Healthy Families East Cape move towards an almost full and complete team in our Tairāwhiti rohe.

Last month, we excitedly welcomed the newest member of our team and lead of our innovation space, George Kingi.

George’s role as Practice Lead is crucial to the workings of the Healthy Families movement as we work towards systems change and improving health outcomes

for our people. George’s previous mahi is exciting and diverse, spreading across multiple sectors including health, where he has had been privileged to walk and learn “amongst giants in their fields, contributing to big, small and positive changes for the communities they serve.”

“On a good day, I have created ripples in the space/ time continuum that alter future realities in the third dimension, ” shares George.

George also shares that his life experience has provided him the opportunities to learn things, both in easy and hard ways, which he likes to use to support and assist future

generations when needed.”

“This excited me, I believe if I can teach my tamariki something complex and they can understand it, then teach their māmā, I feel an amazing sense of gratitude.

“This is the blueprint for when I work with communities.”

The Practice Lead for Healthy Families East Cape has an important role of being the influential team leader, working in systems to improve the health of our people and region.

“We’re excited to have George with us – he is someone who enjoys thinking outside of the box, and has an innate capability to lead, and implement his deep understanding of people that I know will support our communities in creating better outcomes,” says Healthy Families East Cape Manager, Tomairangi Higgins.

George has whakapapa ties to our Tairāwhiti region through his own māmā and connections to Te Whānau A Apanui and Rongowhakaata. He also has ties to Te Rarawa and Ngāpuhi through his pāpā.

“I also have blood ties to Scotland, Ireland, Hawaii, Chile, Samoa, Norway, Sweden and Denmark – these places are on my bucket list to visit with my whānau.”

When asked what excites him about his upcoming mahi with Healthy Families East Cape, George shared:

“What drives me is the thought of contributing to a legacy my mokopuna will be proud of and they will want to strengthen this in their interactions with the world they live in.”

Every day is an opportunity for us to build this vision and Healthy Families East Cape are thrilled to have George supporting and leading this vision as part of the Healthy Families Kaupapa.

Join us in welcoming George, to our team!
